A fight between a mom and a girl broke out and when the cops showed up everyone ran, including the people who didn't do anything. So the cops just started putting everyone on the ground and in handcuffs for no reason. This kind of force is uncalled for especially on children and innocent bystanders.
One officer has been placed on administrative leave following the release of a YouTube video Saturday depicting a chaotic scene near a neighborhood pool in which an officer can be seen wrestling an unarmed girl in a swimsuit to the ground.
In a statement published on Facebook Sunday, the McKinney, Texas, Police Department said the situation was triggered Friday evening by multiple reports of a "disturbance" at a community pool.
"The initial call came in as a disturbance involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave," the department said. "McKinney Police received several additional calls related to this incident advising that juveniles were now actively fighting.
"First responding officers encountered a large crowd that refused to comply with police commands. Nine additional units responded to the scene. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the situation."
The video does show a chaotic scene, in which dozens of kids can be seen scrambling and screaming as officers attempt to gather them together, occasionally physically forcing them to the ground.
"This video has raised concerns that are being investigated by the McKinney Police Department," it said in the statement. "At this time, one of the responding officers has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation."
The statement doesn't specify which of the officers depicted in the video has been suspended, though one of the officers is seen drawing his weapon on two boys who run over to him as he wrestles an unidentified girl.
The initial fight was between kids and adults at the pool, some of the kids involved told Buzzfeed, and was allegedly sparked by racist comments by the adults, who then turned violent.
Brandon Brooks, the 15-year-old who shot the video, told Buzzfeed many of the kids had guest passes.
The family of one of the girls handcuffed at the scene told Buzzfeed they will file assault charges against an adult woman involved in the conflict that summoned police.
